Dognapped
This is a true story shared to me by my dear friend Debby about her darling dog name Lexi. Lexi’s story touched my heart very deeply and I like to alert all dog lovers out there to be extra vigilant when you take your darling for outing.
It happen one evening when we took Lexi out with us for dinner .
We have a Cadillac Escalade and it has an automatic start. So we locked her in and started the car so she would have air conditioning. When we came out 20 minutes later, the window was shattered and she was gone! That was the most horrifying feeling I’ve ever experienced! We called the police but there was nothing they could do. So we took matters into our own hands. I called the news and was on the channel 2,4 and 5 news within 24 hrs of her being stolen. Within 4 hours of her being stolen we had over 5,000 fliers all over Concord and all surrounding towns. We were on the news, the radio, the newspaper and the internet. I wanted to make it so ‘hot’ that these thieves would not be able to leave their house with our Lexi without someone seeing them . I contacted a pet detective and a psychic. I wanted my little girl home! The pet detective scared me to death saying if it was a professional, she was gone for good and in a puppy mill within the first few hours of her going missing! Oh God, no, not my baby girl.
It was a horrible 4 days. We got about 8 calls saying "we have your dog, meet us…..". We would go and sit there for hours and nobody would show up. This went on for 4 days. Then we got a call saying to meet them in another county. (I assume they thought police couldn’t cross county lines!) I told them to text me a picture of her. And there she was!!!! My heart just soared with joy and then sadness for how absolutely terrified she looked! My boyfriend was nervous by this time, so he didn’t let me go with him. With lots of money to be holding and sitting in a parking lot waiting for a thief to show up. Anyway, when he got to the Petco in Alameda, he saw the car pull in and saw Lexi ‘driving’ like she always does. YAY!! He gave the guy the money, he handed Lexi to Chris and that was that. However, Chris said it was the same people that had parked next to us at the restaurant! UGH!!!! I wish I had been there because I would have rammed their car and they wouldn’t have gotten away!
But….we have our baby back! It was so sad, she had such terrible nightmares the first week she was home. And we think they kept her in a hamster cage because she smelled like hamster shavings! My poor little girl.
And I don’t know if they hurt her with a vacuum but she used to love to chase it and now she is terrified of it. And they had kids, that I guess hurt her because she now shy’s away from children. And God forbid she see’s someone that looks like the people that stole her, she goes nuts barking at them. Poor thing.:( You know I had no idea that there are professional dog thieves out there just waiting for you to leave your pet in the car, or tie them up outside a store. Isn’t that terrible?!! I also found out that any Yorkie or Yorkie mix are in very high demand and they are the number one stolen dogs! But I believe in Karma, and it will come back to get these dog thieves! The cash reward (ransom) has really put us in a financial bind. Ouch! But you know, I would do it again if I had to. We no longer leave her anywhere! She goes everywhere with us. I think she likes going to the movies the best. LOL
Also, she is going to be on Inside Edition sometime this month I think. They said it would be on for their new season premier. LOL You know, Paris Hilton’s dog was stolen and she only offered $5,000. Hmmmm…I think we love our Lexi a tad more than that. hahaha No really, I don’t think they would have brought her back for less. Money makes people stupid and I whole world, so the money was never an issue. Except of course, for trying to come up with it. But we had a lot of friends offer their help. We were going to get her back, no matter what! And needless to say, she is NEVER out of my sight anymore. So there it is…the story of our little girls horrifying dog napping experience. Pretty scary huh? I did the Inside Edition show because I thought it was really important to let people out there know that there are professional dog thieves out there just waiting for the opportunity to take our innocent pets! And that there are places out there to get help from. But mostly…don’t doubt your own abilities to fight and save the lives of our beloved furry family members.
