To be successful with the “down” word make sure your dog  or puppy learns the “sit” word
first.  When your dog or puppy have mastered the “sit” word, the “down” word is easy.

Hold your dog or puppy’s favorite treat in front of their nose. Then bring the treat down
closer to the side of your mouth and say the word “sit”. Make sure their eyes are looking
at the shape of your mouth. Repeat the word “sit” several time and  lightly guide them to
a sitting position and repeat “sit”.  After several practice, whenever you command “sit”
they will sit.

As for the “down” word. Do the same procedure as mentioned above .  Allow them to sniff
the treat and slowly bring it to the floor and say “down”.
